چکیده
We present a method to control the size of giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs), in which biochemical reaction can be encapsulated and conducted, with the aid of microfluidics. GUVs were formed by passing the water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion droplets through the second oil/water interface by centrifugation. Last year we showed that, by controlling the size of the initial W/O emulsion with a flow-focusing device, size of the lipid vesicles can also be controlled. Here we examined the physical condition that determines the vesicle size, and showed that our method is compatible with biochemical reactions for artificial cell-model studies.

The Effect of Retinoic Acid on Seminal Vesicle Epithelial Cell
Purpose: The seminal vesicles are androgen dependent exocrine glands producing protein-rich secretion. The retinoic acid has been implicated as a signaling molecule for the seminal vesicle development. In the present study, the effect of retinoic acid on seminal vesicle epithelial cell of neonatal mouse was investigated. Materials and Methods: Newborn male N-MRI mice were injected intraperiton...
متن کاملEngraftment of plasma membrane vesicles into liposomes: A new method for designing of liposome-based vaccines
Objective(s):One of the major challenges in the field of vaccine design is choosing immunogenic antigens which can induce a proper immune response against complex targets like malignant cells or recondite diseases caused by protozoan parasites such as leishmaniasis. The aim of this study was to find a way to construct artificial liposome-based cells containing fragments of target’s cell membran...
متن کاملCell ‘trap a D Release’ Usi G Ovel Microfluidic ‘hydraulic Jump’ Trap
Cell ‘trap and release’ in microfluidic devices is critical for on-chip concentration purposes and dynamic microarrays. However, most existing mechanical trapping modalities lack release capabilities and some employ very complex or abrasive trapping mechanisms. Here we describe a novel cell ‘trap and release’ device, which employs principles similar to the ‘hydraulic jump’ phenomenon in nature....
متن کاملExtracellular Vesicles in Regenerative Medicine, a Brief Review
Extracellular vesicles were initially known as cellular waste carriers, while recent studies demonstrate that extracellular vesicles play important biological roles in all aspects of life-from single cells to mammalians. Their pathophysiological roles in some diseases like cancer are being decoded. Extracellular vesicles are divided into some classes and there are different strategies to isolat...
متن کاملEXTRACELLULAR VESICLES AND THEIR THERAPEUTIC APPLICATIONS: A REVIEW
Background & Aims: Extracellular vesicles are double phospholipid layer vesicles releasing from several cells. These particles contain bio-molecules including mRNA, miRNA, DNA, proteins, and lipids which play a pivotal role in the cell to cell communication. Once delivered, they participate to change target cell function, fate, morphology, differentiation, and growth. The present study is a re...
